Wow this is a tough question….so my father in law is diabetic and has been for 30 years however, before he met me he did not really understand how what he ate could worsen his diabetes. Due to my scientific knowledge I have been able to educate him on what to eat and how much insulin injections he should give himself when he eats for example lots of bread (e.g. carbohydrates). Due to his increased understanding he now spends less time with really low blood sugar (which could cause a coma) so he is much healthier.
I hope so! I hope to inspire and influence my students and the people we work with. I also hope my work helps others. We work with lots of people with medical conditions and hope the advice and guidance we give helps.
Blimey, tough one. I was part of a big trial that showed that a particular type of medical test is better than another one (CT colonography is better than Barium Enema). I was part of the group that showed patients prefer the CT to the Barium test. As a result of this, and several other studies, the NHS stopped using Barium Enema in most circumstances. Hospitals around the world took a similar decision. I only played a small part, but I hope I made a contribution to this decision!
