Yes I would but I think it is really important to make clear what it is like to be a scientist. Firstly it is really good fun and has huge variation but also it can e stressful. I think if you want to be a scientist it is important to find the area you are most interested in whether that be designing telescopes, making new medicines or understanding complex diseases (there is loads of choice out there). There is also quite a lot of writing and communicating in science. Also as a career it can be quite transferable many of the skills you learn can be used in other areas. Also there are often opportunities to work abroad and attend scientific conferences in cool countries (I have been to Japan which was amazing and I worked in Denmark for three years).

I definitely would. I love my job and think it is a very worthwhile role to be able to use science to help solve the problems that exist in society. But it’s important to remember that we don’t always get to do science – there’s a lot of administrative work to go alongside it. This is when I get really fed up!

That said, I’ve had lots of perks with what I do, and as Charlotte says, international travel is one of them. I’ve met people all over the world, and I’m fortunate to have friends in far flung places because of what I do. But the best thing about what I do is that I get to use my own subject area that I love (psychology) to make a difference to the lives of people. That’s the easiest motivation for getting out of bed in the morning!

Interesting question Mollie and I would probably promote the aspects of my job or the journey. I took to give an insight to career options and directions I guess it depends on a students interests.
My job is multi-disciplinary and people who may be interested in the aspects may come from a variety of different interests. For example, I enjoyed sport and PE at school others may be interested in the Science. My career is interesting and fun so I would definitely try to inspire students if they were interested,.
